The Challenge
As a vital link between conceptual research and full-scale ocean testing, FloWave needed a way to tell their story in a way that appealed to both technical audiences and a broader audience fascinated by renewable energy innovation. The challenge was to create engaging, versatile content that highlighted the facility’s cutting-edge capabilities and its pivotal role in advancing ocean energy technology.
The Thinking
To showcase FloWave’s groundbreaking impact and innovation over the last 10 years, we created two dynamic films that told their story in a clear and visually striking way. Our approach focused on:
- Balancing Technical Precision with Broad Appeal: We developed a visual style that explained the complex technology in an accessible way for a wider audience, while still delivering the detailed insights needed to engage technical experts.
- Motion Graphics to Drive Key Messages: By incorporating motion graphics, we highlighted the facility’s unique capabilities and the benefits it offers to researchers and commercial developers, emphasising its ability to simulate ocean conditions and accelerate marine energy innovations.
- Optimised for Multi-Platform Use: The films were designed to perform across multiple channels, including online platforms, events, and as a resource for stakeholder engagement. The aim was to make the content flexible, eye-catching, and impactful regardless of where it was viewed.

Impact
- Increased Online Engagement: FloWave achieved its highest-ever engagement on social media, sparking increased interest from new audiences.
- Attracting New Partnerships: The assets played a key role in raising awareness and attracting new research and commercial partners to the FloWave facility.
- Expanding Awareness: The films successfully connected FloWave’s story and services to a wider audience, building momentum for their mission of accelerating marine energy innovation.
